The Influence of Grief Level on Suicidal Ideation among Bereaved Single-Household Elderly - Focusing on Moderating Effect of Social Support -

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of grief level on suicidal ideation and how the moderating effect of social support can play a role in this relationship among bereaved single-household elderly. For this, the authors conduct a survey of single-household elderlies who were bereaved in the Daejon, Chungnam area and analyze 303 cases. The main result of this study is as follows. First, the grief level and social support have a statistically significant influences on suicidal ideation of bereaved single-household elderly. Second, the interaction term of grief level and social support is statistically significant and this indicates that social support has a moderating effect on the relationship between grief level and suicidal ideation among bereaved single-household elderly. Based on these results, the authors suggest practical implications of intervention strategies that could prevent suicide of bereaved single-household elderly.
